If you like the idea of having your own toll free number for business or personal use (with no monthly fees or sign up fees), but don't want to switch long distance carriers - this is for you!
To sign up for a 3.45¢ per minute (6 second billing), or 2.85¢ per minute (60 second billing), stand alone toll free number, simply follow these steps:
1. Click on one of the Stand Alone 800 Toll Free Number links at the bottom of this page (a seperate browser window will open).
2. Enter the area code and the prefix of the phone number you want the toll free number to point to (if you want more than one toll free number, don't worry: you'll have the opportunity to request more in a second). Click on the "GO" icon to get to the next screen
3. Now fill out the "general information" including the number you want to switch (ie, the number you want the toll free number to ring to). Then click on the box that says "Check this box if you need toll-free service." You will be automatically re-directed to the next screen.
4. At the next screen there is a box near the bottom of the page that looks like this:
If you want a new toll free number check that box and fill in the phone number you want it to ring to.
5. If you have existing toll free numbers you want to transfer, you will need to have filled out the general info screen previously and print the fax form, fill it out and fax it in (federal law requires a signature to transfer existing toll free numbers).
6. In any case, click on the box that says "I only want toll-free service, do not switch my regular long-distance." (Of course, if you're paying more than 2.85¢ a minute for long distance calls, you're gonna want to switch!)
7. Finally, click on the terms of service agreement, and click on the "continue to next page" icon.
8. At this point you will finish up with billing details (how you want to be billed).
There - you're done! Now your kids away at the state U can call you any time they want and you'll be charged for it. Enjoy!
